Permethrin is an active ingredient that repels against mosquitoes, ticks, ants, chiggers, flies, midges and other insects. The ACU replaced the previous standard uniform used for combat, the BDU short for Battle Dress Uniform. The BDU was introduced in September 1981 and was worn by all branches of the US Military. The BDU is in the process of being phased out by each US military branch by a uniform that better fits there needs, if not already has been phased out. The ACU has completely phased out the BDU for the US Army on December 2007.
