US Army Pants

The US Army pants are pants worn by the US Army or has been worn, including the ACU, BDU, rain pants and ECWCS pants. The ACU, short for Army Combat Uniform is the standard issued combat uniform by the US Army. The camouflage pattern used for the US army pants is a universal camouflage pattern (UCP) also known as ARPAT (ARmy PATtern). The camouflage pattern is composed of grey, tan and sage green and is digitalized. The color black was omitted from the patter for reason including, it is not found in nature and when black is viewed through night vision goggles it appears excessively dark and creates undesirable high contrast image. The ACU pants are offered in several different designs, the regular ACU, the flame resistant ACU and the no fly zone ACU. The flame resistant ACU is constructed of a flame retardant and self extinguishing fabric that will prevent injuries from flames. The no fly zone ACU is treated with Permethrin. Permethrin is an active ingredient that repels against mosquitoes, ticks, ants, chiggers, flies, midges and other insects. The ACU replaced the previous standard uniform used for combat, the BDU short for Battle Dress Uniform. The BDU was introduced in September 1981 and was worn by all branches of the US Military. The BDU is in the process of being phased out by each US military branch by a uniform that better fits there needs, if not already has been phased out. The ACU has completely phased out the BDU for the US Army on December 2007.
