ECWCS was developed in the 1980s as a protective clothing system by the United States Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center. The ECWCS is constructed to keep a person comfortable in temperatures ranging from -60 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit, -51 to 4 degrees Celsius. The ECWCS pants are constructed of 3 layers, the outer layer being abrasion resistant taslan nylon, an intermediate layer made of Gore-Tex membrane to offer durable waterproof, windproof and breathable quality and an inner layer made of unlaminated nylon. The ECWCS pants features hemmed bottoms, moisture wicking barriers at cuffs, two cargo pockets, zippered leg openings, reinforced knees and seat and is Near Infrared (NIR) compliant. Proppers second generation ECWCS pants can be seen worn by members of US Marines, US Special Forces, US Army and the US Air Force stationed in terrains with extreme environments such as Norway and Bosnia to Afghanistan.
