A base layer bottom serves as the first layer of clothing in defense against cold, heat and moisture and is constructed to remain dry by wicking, repelling or allowing moisture to pass through. APCU is short for Advanced Protective Combat Uniform, an advanced layering system designed to be a superior alternative to other layering systems, such as the Generation 2 and 3 ECWCS systems. X-static is a fiber used to construct the lining of the APCU base layer, X-static fiber is made of 99.9% pure silver permanently bonded to the surface of a textile fiber. The X-static material is heat conductive, heat reflective, odor eliminating, all natural and is therapeutic. The base layer features 5% of the X-static silver lining.
