DCU
The DCU, short for Desert Combat Uniform or Desert Camouflage Uniform is a form of the BDU. It features the same construction of the BDU but with a different camouflage scheme. The pattern featured on the DCU is a 3 color desert camouflage pattern, made up of light tan, pale green and brown. The DCU replaced the Desert Battle Dress Uniform (DBDU) which used a 6 color desert camouflage pattern chocolate chip camouflage which was deemed unsuitable for most desert combat theaters. The DCUs were worn by the US Army up until the ACU was introduced as the standard combat uniform. Currently, the US Air Force wears the DCU as one of there combat uniform but is in the process of being phased out by the year 2011 with the ABU. The DCUs are commonly referred to as military combat uniform, desert camouflage BDUs, camouflage uniform, desert camouflage uniform, military camouflage BDU.

3 Color Desert Camouflage
The 3 Color Desert Camouflage is a camouflage pattern that blends one into the desert environment. The pattern allows one to appear nearly invisible by others in desert terrains when properly applied. The 3 color desert camouflage was developed to replace the 6 color desert camouflage which was considered ineffective in most desert combat theaters. The 3 color desert camouflage pattern is found in the DCU, Desert Combat Uniform or Desert Camouflage Uniform. The DCU was once the standard combat uniform of the US Army for operations in desert like environments. Also, the DCU may be used by the US Air Force, US Navy and US Coast Guards but is currently being phased out for official use. The 3 color desert camouflage pattern is comprised of the following colors, light tan, pale green and brown. Currently and in the past the following countries have used the 3 color desert camouflage pattern, Japan, Djibouti, Sudan, Singapore, South Korea, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and much more. The 3 color desert camouflage is sometimes referred to as desert camouflage, three color desert camouflage, tri color desert camouflage, army desert camouflage, army desert camo, desert camo, 3 color desert camo, tri color desert camo, three color desert camo, coffee stain camouflage, tri-color desert camouflage, desert camo 3 color, desert camo, three-color desert.

6 Color Desert Camouflage
The 6 Color Color Desert Camouflage is a pattern that was constructed to allow one to blend into the desert and desert like environments. The 6 color desert camouflage is comprised of light tan overlaid with broad swathes of pale olive green, two tone bands of brown and clusters of black on white scattered all over. The 6 color desert camouflage received the nickname chocolate chip camouflage because it resembled chocolate chip cookie dough. Originally the 6 color desert camouflage was designed in 1962 but did not have military use until 1981 when used as the camouflage pattern for the Desert Battle Dress Uniform, DBDU. The DBDU was issued to a small numbers of soldiers taking part in the biennial Bright Star exercises in Egypt during the 1980s and also by FORSCOM peacekeepers assigned to the Multinational Force and Observers in the Egyptian Sinai Desert. The DBDU was issued to soldiers in large numbers during the Persian Gulf War because it best fit the battle field terrain. After the Gulf War the US Military use of the 6 color desert camouflage uniform wasn’t issued to soldiers for much longer. Other Army’s that use or used the 6 color desert camouflage pattern is Afghanistan, China, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, and much more. The 6 color desert camouflage is commonly referred to as chocolate chip camouflage, cookie dough camouflage, six color desert pattern, desert camo, desert camouflage, chocolate chip camo, chocolate chip desert camo, desert camo pattern, six color desert pattern, 6 color desert pattern, 6 color desert.
