Long Sleeve Shirts & Coats
The long sleeve shirts & coats are all short sleeve shirts and coats offered by Propper. The long sleeve shirts & coats consist of BDU shirts, APCU base layers, APCU hoodies, TAC.U coats, ACU coats, ABU coats and tactical dress shirts. The BDU shirts are part of Battle Dress Uniform, once the standard battle uniform used throughout the US Military but now is in the process of being phased out by each branch of the US military if it hasn’t been already. The ACU coat is part of the new combat uniform used by the US Army, the Army Combat Uniform. The ACU completely phased out the BDU for use in the US Army in December of 2007 and features a universal camouflage pattern, UCP or ARmy PATtern ARPAT. The universal camouflage pattern consists of gray, tan and sage green in a digital pattern. The color black was omitted from the uniform because it is not commonly found in nature and also, when pure black is viewed through night vision goggles it appears excessively dark and creates an undesirable high contrast. The ABU is short for Airman Battle Uniform, the new battle uniform for the US Air Force completely replacing the Battle Dress Uniform (BDU) by 2011. The camouflage pattern for the ABU is digital tiger stripe camouflage. The digital tiger stripe camouflage comprises the colors tan, grey, green and slate blue (air force blue) in a digital pattern. APCU base layers and hoodies are part of Advanced Protective Combat Uniform laying system. The APCU layering system consists of 7 layers and when combine can protect against the most extreme weather conditions. The APCU base layer is a level 2 layer and the APCU spy hoodie is a level 3 layer. Tiger Stripe Camouflage
The tiger stripe camouflage is a type of camouflage pattern developed for close range use in dense jungle areas. The tiger stripe camouflage got its name due to resemblance to a tiger’s stripe. The camouflage pattern consists of narrow stripes that look like brush stroke of green and brown, and broader brush strokes of black printed over a lighter shade of olive or khaki. The brush strokes are applied in a way which they interlock rather than overlap each stroke. There are many different versions of the tiger stripe, each varies by different print patterns and color variations. The origin of the tiger stripe camouflage is unclear, consisting of 64 stripes. The tiger stripe camouflage was used by US troops between 1965 and 1975 by advisors who were sent to South Vietnam. The Asian Tiger Stripe camouflage is a specific type of design from the tiger stripe camouflage family. The tiger stripe camouflage pattern was developed for use during close range encounters with enemy forces to blend one in with the dense jungle surroundings, mostly used during jungle warfare by the South Vietnamese Armed Forces and US Forces. ABU Utility Caps
The Propper ABU utility cap is one of the official issued headgear worn by the United States Air Force. ABU is short for Airman Battle Uniform, the new battle uniform featuring a digital camouflage design for the United States Air Force. The ABU pattern is a digital tiger stripe design, colors include blue, green, and tan. The ABU camouflage design is similar to the Army Combat Uniform (ACU) but the difference is the ABU colors include a slate blue color. The ABU replaced the old standard uniform in use, the BDU. The BDU, short for Battle Dress Uniform was in use by the US Air Force from the 1980s till present. The ABU is expected to replace the BDU completely by fiscal year 2011.
